On 21 February 2022, the Applied Mathematics Development Fund (VFAM) was officially established and launched in Ho Chi Minh City. Its mission is to advance training and develop highly qualified human resources in applied mathematics, contributing to the country's digital transformation and economic and technological development in the era of Industry 4.0.
The Fund was initiated by the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Ho Chi Minh City, with a lead contribution from Fiachra Aodh de Suipéal Mac Cana — a financial expert and Board Member of Pharmacity Corporation — alongside co-founder Paul Nguyễn (VietQuant) and other members as required by law.
The Fund supports advanced training and research in applied mathematics across several key fields:
Funding is open to master's students and PhD candidates (Vietnamese nationals) with excellent academic records and strong scientific research achievements, currently studying applied mathematics at Vietnamese post-graduate institutions.
At the ceremony, Dr. Nguyễn Thanh Bình (Department of Mathematics & Informatics, University of Science, VNU-HCMC) presented “Applied Mathematics in Data Science.” The event drew nearly 50 professors, doctors and heads of mathematics departments from major universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
